The Sunnah of bukhoor (incense) is rooted in the practices of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

  1. Perfuming the Masjid: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to burn oudh (agarwood) sticks to perfume the Masjid. This practice was continued by his companions, such as Abdullah bin Umar (R.A), who would burn pure oudh and camphor mixed with oudh as a fragrance.

  2. Perfuming the Home: It is encouraged to burn bukhoor in homes to create a pleasant and inviting atmosphere.

  3. Perfuming the Deceased: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) advised that the deceased be perfumed with bukhoor. He mentioned that when perfuming the deceased with bukhoor, it should be done three times.

  4. Special Occasions: Bukhoor is often used during special occasions, religious ceremonies, and gatherings to symbolize hospitality and purity.

  5. Jumuah (Friday) Prayers: It is recommended to perfume the Masjid, especially on the day of Jumuah, to create a welcoming environment for worshippers.

Types of Bukhoor:

  • Natural Bukhoor: Made from natural ingredients such as agarwood or oud chips, soaked in essential oils.

  • Synthetic Bukhoor: Produced using artificial fragrances and other non-natural components.

  • Aromatherapy: The soothing and calming aroma of bukhoor can help reduce stress and create a relaxing environment.

  • Air Purification: Bukhoor can help eliminate unpleasant odors and purify the air.
